OPEN SPACES Bio:
A brief intro to the Open Spaces (farmed & foraged) project collection. In Trumansburg, on Iradell Rd, Melissa Madden tends to apple orchards; forages wild fruit, flower and herbs for her farm bars; and raises chickens (for eggs) and turkeys (for meat). She rents a large, 50 year old orchard in Newfield. Along the route to Newfield from Trumansburg, Melissa manages a few small orchards- most especially at Enfield Elementary in collaboration with students preK-5th grade.
All Open Spaces orchards and livestock are managed organically. Poultry is pastured in day range systems in meadows and silvopasture. Melissa shares her farm goods with folks through her Apple and Egg CSAs, direct-to-customer meat sales, pop-up farm bars and orchard ecology education for kiddos. Melissa has been a farmer in the Finger Lakes for 20 years, with Open Spaces as her 3rd farm project. Open Spaces is all about small, mobile systems, sharing good food and working with children at the intersection of ecology and agriculture.

LUNA FIBER STUDIO Bio:

Sarah Gotowka is a practicing textile artist and owner of Luna Fiber Studio, a small textile studio in Trumansburg rooted in sustainability and social justice. She has been weaving since 2005, and has been growing natural dyes since 2010. She received her BFA in Fibers and Material Studies from The Cleveland Institute of Art in 2007, and her MFA in Fibers and Material Practices from Concordia University in Montreal in 2013.
